Larry was born May 12, 1953 in Burge Hospital, Springfield MO to Bobby Jean and Vetha May (Etheridge) Colson. He died on October 20, 2024 at home and will be laid to rest in Danforth Cemetery, Strafford MO.
Larry graduated from Parkview High School in 1971, in 1980 he was united in marriage to Karen Ann Moody and from this marriage, two sons, Cory Jean and Christopher Thomas were born.
He worked at MoDot for 38 years and always felt that his coworkers were family. In his later years of service, he liked to start rumors with half truths and see how long it would take to get back to him and if they were the same rumor. He was fortunate to find another family of friends of Olsson Engineering and had the privilege of working there for five years.
Things he enjoyed were: wood working, canoeing, working on Buick Skylarks, gardening, junking, piddling with things, brush hogging, and mowing.
Preceded in death are his son Christopher T. Colson, his parents Bobby J. Colson and Vetha May (Etheridge) Colson, and a brother-in-law Jerry Grubbs all from Springfield, a father-in-law Maj. Thomas E. Moody and his wife Nancy L. (Shelly) Moody and a sister-in-law Susan O. (Moody) Shafer.
Survivors include his wife Karen A. (Moody) Colson, a son Cory J. Colson, and his wife Jennifer (Meeker) Colson and her daughter Sydney of Louisville KY, a sister Patricia M. Grubbs of Springfield, her son William Grubbs and his wife Hannah and their kids Seth, Marshall, Jermiah and Claudette of Jackson MO, a sister-in-law Kathy Lynn Moody and her partner Kenny Mooney of Cape Fair MO and a bevy of friends and cousins.
Special thanks to Mike from Seasons Hospice for his advice and care.
Instead of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Seasons Hospice or NAMI Southwest Missouri.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home South, 441 W. Battlefield, Springfield. Private/family graveside services will be held Friday, October 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Danforth Cemetery in Strafford MO.
