Larry Leslie Flett, age 62, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on March 24, 2025. Larry was born to Milton Flett and Imogene Leonard on July 12, 1962, in Salem, Missouri. He grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, and moved to Springfield in 1989. Larry was united in marriage to Lori Jewel Wiltshire on August 22, 1981, in St. Louis. Larry and Lori shared 43 years of marriage before Larry’s untimely passing on March 24, 2025. Larry proudly served in the United States Air Force for six years before his honorable discharge on April 26, 1988. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Jennifer Renee Shaffer and Lisa Ann Hunter.
Larry was employed as a Solid Waste Operations Associate with the City of Springfield for the last two years. He was previously a Springfield Police Officer from 1989 to 1999. Over the course of his career, Larry held other jobs including an accident reconstructionist and Greene County bailiff, which he held equal passions in doing. When not working, Larry had many interests and pastimes, including memorizing scripture, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, riding motorcycles, singing, and teaching adult Bible fellowship classes. However, fewer things brought him more fulfillment than spending time with his three grandkids.
Larry will be remembered as loyal, fiercely protective, passionate, kind, ornery, and a lover of Jesus. He has been described by others as a gentle giant who was always ready to give a hug and who made others feel loved. Larry leaves a legacy of the importance of sharing the gospel with others and keeping family close.
Larry is survived by his father, Milton and wife, Margie; mother, Imogene; the love of his life Lori; daughter, Jennifer and son-in-law, Justin Shaffer; daughter, Lisa Hunter; and grandchildren, Jewel (7), Jolee (6), and Javen (2). He also leaves behind a host of extended family, former colleagues, and close friends.
A Celebration of Life service for Larry will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, 3:00 pm, at Crossway Baptist Church.
Arrangements are under the compassionate direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield, Missouri.
