Larry Russell, age 76, of Springfield, passed away on Feb 4, 2025, in Springfield, Missouri. Larry was born to Ralph Russell and Freeda Faulkner on June 17, 1948, in Springfield, Missouri. He was raised in Springfield and graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1966. Larry was united in marriage to Cara Wright on Oct 20, 1984, in Miami, Oklahoma. Larry and Cara shared 40 years of marriage before Larry’s untimely passing.
Larry was employed as a salesman with both Butternut and Colonial Bakeries for 30 years. After retiring from Colonial Bakery, he operated a lawn service for 20 years. When not working, he had many interests and pastimes including golfing, watching sports on television and taking care of his yard. Larry’s favorite activity as a child was playing baseball. His passion for sports continued as he coached many youth baseball and basketball teams during his son’s childhood. He then played fast pitch softball as an adult. Nothing, however, brought him more fulfillment than time with his family and friends. Larry will be remembered as a kind man and an outgoing people person.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ginger and husband Lennie; brother, Ralph: and sister- in- law, Ann. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Cara; son, Brent and his wife, Jami; daughter, Stephanie and her husband, Tony; stepson, Sean and his wife, Michelle; grandchildren: Chance and his partner, Annie, Kelton and his wife, Maddy, Kelsey and her husband, Kyle, Noah and his wife, Paige, Hannah and her partner, Don; great-grandchildren, Finley and Hayden; brother, Mike; and sister-in-law, Norma. Larry is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his special golf buddies, Steve and Sean.
A memorial visitation for Larry will be held on Wednesday Feb 12, 2025, from 1:00-3:00 p.m., at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield. Larry will be laid to rest on Thursday, February 13, 2025, 1:00 pm, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Larry’s memory to the American Red Cross.
