Layton Eugene Vaughan was born July 29, 1941, to Lester and Laura Vaughan in
Springfield, Mo., and passed away September 29, 2021, in his home.
He grew up attending Springfield Schools graduating from Central High School in 1959. He then served in the U.S. Navy. He was united in marriage to Patricia Kay Dickey on August 25, 1960. They were married 47 years before her passing in 2008.
Layton held several jobs through the years. He sold real estate for many years in Springfield, first with his father-in-law, John Dickey, then with Kohl Realtors, and finally with Coldwell Banker. He later worked for his son, Gary, at Heartland Motor Freight. In retirement, Layton was a member of Twin Oaks Country Club where he enjoyed many hours of golf and fellowship with his friends there.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat; his parents; a sister, Laura Lessar; a brother, Jimmy Vaughn, and a grandson, Kyle Vaughan. He is survived by his four children and their spouses: Gary and Sarah Vaughan, David and Kim Vaughan, Michelle and Myron Admire, and Mike and Natalie Vaughan; his grandchildren: Jourdan Caldwell (Ed), Clay Vaughan, Derrick Vaughan (Tanna), Katelyn Admire Sholk (Jared), Ramsey Vaughan, Tori Vaughan Tutt (Carter), Jeremiah Vaughan (Jessica), Dalton Vaughan (Kylea), Noah Admire (Tana), and Emily Admire; and great-grandchildren: Jackson Caldwell, Ella Caldwell, Ashlynn Shepard, Hudson Vaughan, and Flora Vaughan. He is also survived by his sister, Vicky Soapes, a sister-in-law, Mary Vaughan, a sister-in-law, Nancy Dickey Wright, and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Ellis, the nurses, and staff at OHA; his hospice nurse, Dianna; his special friends who visited often — he considered you more like family than friends; and also, to his wonderful neighbors who helped take care of him and watched out for him.
The family will host a memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, with visitation starting at 10 a.m., at James River West, 3953 W. Farm Road 168, Springfield, Mo.
