Leland Dale Melton, 85 of Walnut Grove passed away on March 8, 2023. He was born at home in Ozark, MO on February 22, 1938 to Leland Edward Melton and Mildred Lucille (Campbell) Melton.
Dale graduated from Ozark High School. He served for seven years in Missouri National Guard, was a long time Baptist Deacon, served on the Walnut Grove School Board and was the first president of the Walnut Grove Lions Club. Dale worked for Butternut Bread Company, was a teamster member in Local 245 Union for more than 23 years and retired as a truck driver for Yellow Freight Company. Dale was baptized to his Lord Jesus Christ at a young age at Hopedale Baptist Church.
On June 2, 1957, he was united in marriage to Donna Mae Glenn. They were united in marriage over 59 years before Donna’s passing in 2016. To this union four children were born: Karen Melton, Beth Chainey, Linda Bean and David Melton.
Dale is survived by his children: Karen Melton (Springfield), Linda Bean (Walnut Grove), David Melton (wife Beth) (Walnut Grove), brother Gary Melton; sister Brenda Buddette Grandchildren: Casey Unger, Chris, JP, David & Sarah Chainey, Willie Bean, Jessica Fortner, Cole & Claire Melton. 11 Great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and friends.
Dale was proceeded in death by his wife Donna Melton, parents Leland & Lucille Melton and a daughter Beth Chainey.
Dale was an avid baseball fan, particularly a loyal St. Louis Cardinals fan. Over the years he attended some games, but you could always find him catching a game on TV every chance he got. This gentle, loving and caring man will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be held by the family before the Service Saturday March 11 from noon to 1pm with Services to start immediately after at Greenlawn North Funeral Home, with Rev. Ken Wilson officiating. Burial will follow
in Selmore Cemetery Ozark, MO.
