Lester Dean “Dink” Agee
Lester Dean “Dink” Agee, 89, of Republic, Missouri, passed away at his home on Friday, November 26, 2021, after an extended illness.
He was born on July 7, 1932, one of eleven children born to Homer and Margaret (Stennett) Agee. He was united in marriage to Sharon Thomas on February 14, 1986. Dink—as everyone knew him—worked many jobs until he settled in at Conco Concrete Company for thirty-three years, retiring in 1994. He retired for two years, then started working part-time for Ye Olde Buggy Bath, retiring again after twenty-four years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Margaret Agee; two sons, James “Jimbo” Agee and Gerry “Pete” Agee; one grandson, Craig Agee; his father and mother-in-law, Roy and Louise Thomas; five brothers, Carl Agee, Louis Agee, Harold Agee, Donald Agee, and Virgil Agee; three sisters, Mary Colvard, Norma Jackson, and Agnes Shields; many brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; special pets, Daisy Mae, Dezi, Boomer, and Benji; and a special friend, Delbert Miles.
He served in the Army for three years and played traveling baseball during his service. He continued playing ball well into his 60s. He was gifted to work on cars, boat motors, and boats all his life. The lake was his happy place.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of the home; two sons, Jerry Agee (Barbara), and Steve Agee; three daughters, Bridget Myers (Jason); Teresa Scott (Vince); and Becky Green. He was also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Collin and Addison Myers; Josh Agee (Abby); Summer Lampe (Hunter); Shauna Jones; Savannah Jones; Gary Allen Agee; Jake Agee; Lianna Ingenthron (Nic); Chrissy Shook; Matt Shook; Melissa Bassett (Bob); and Jake Thomas; as well as many great and great-great grandchildren. He was survived by two sisters, Sandy Sowder and Barbara Peck as well as many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He loved his God and his church, Crossway Baptist Church. Dink was very much a people person, and his kindness towards all was always noted. He could crack the craziest jokes and keep people laughing. He loved to fish and hunt, and his dedication to his family and even toward strangers was amazing.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 3rd at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Lester Agee’s care has been entrusted to Greenlawn North Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Salvation Army (1707 W. Chestnut Expy, Springfield, MO 65802), which Dink always appreciated while he was in the Army. As a family, we will miss our rock, but we know he is rejoicing with God in heaven along with all his family and friends. As a family, we wish to express our deepest appreciation to Compasses Hospice of Springfield, Missouri, for all the care they provided for Dink in the past few months. A special thanks is also expressed to his home veterans’ aid, A.J. Vandercamp.
