Lillie Mae Tice, 98, of Springfield, MO, passed away on May 19, 2024, in Springfield, MO where she lived with her son David and daughter-in-law Lillian Tice. Lillie Mae was born to William McFarland Cox and Edith Mae Baker Cox on May 2, 1926 in Vinson, OK. She was number 17 of 18 children. She lived in Oklahoma until 1935 when the family moved to California to escape the dust bowl. She graduated from 9th grade at Stanford Jr. High School in 1942 in Sacramento, CA. Lillie Mae was united in marriage to Lee George Tice on October 17, 1942 in Sacramento, CA. Lee George and Lillie Mae shared almost 70 years in marriage before Lee George passed away at 90 years of age in July of 2012. Lee George served in the United States Army during WWII until he received a special honorable discharge to help take care of his wife, who was ill at the time. Lee George and Lillie Mae were blessed with four children, Edith Marie Baird, David Lee Tice, Paul Roland Tice and Karen Faye Evers.
An outstanding homemaker and hostess, Lillie Mae’s and Lee George’s love for the Lord showed in how they helped others and found great fulfillment in opening their home to families needing temporary lodging and to foster children. Early in their marriage, Lillie and Lee opened their home to Patricia Zazzi who became part of the family. Later in life, they became caregivers to 500-600 children as emergency foster care parents for Placer County, CA. Lillie Mae’s motto was “There is always room for one more”. Lillie Mae loved the Lord and endeavored to share his love with everyone she encountered.
Lillie Mae Tice was preceded in death by her father William Cox, her mother Edith Baker Cox, her husband Lee George Tice and 17 brothers and sisters and their spouses and son-in-law George Baird and granddaughter Jamie Evers. She is survived by her children Edith Baird, David and Lillian Tice, Paul and Mary Tice and Karen and Gary Evers, her grandchildren Aaron and Jenny Bush, Tania and Nick Motto, Casey and Crystal Baird, April Baird, Lanette and David Smith, Susan and Ross Perkins, Hannah and David Cook, Jennifer and Brett Parks, Christina and AJ Hart, Benjamin and Amy Tice, Jonathan Tice, Judah and Amanda Tice, David Evers, Christina and Jonathan Mann, Stephanie and Vincent Montoro, Lillie and Jesse Mann, Xandria Evers, 30 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom knew she dearly loved them.
A visitation for Lillie Mae Tice will be held on Friday, May 31, from 6-8pm, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 1, at 1 pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield with burial to follow in Greenlawn North Cemetery.
