Lillie “May” Scroggins was born to Price and Lille (Baughman) Martin on June 8,1951, in Merced, California. May went to be with the Lord on October 11, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, after a long illness.
May was the youngest and only daughter of seven children. May and her family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1952. After her father passed away, May moved to Springfield, Missouri, in 1960 to live with her mother. After her mother passed away in 1963, May moved to Arvilla, Colorado, to live with her brother and sister-in-law when she was twelve years old.
May then moved to Belton, Missouri, where she graduated from Ruskin Heights High School in 1969. After graduation, May moved back to Springfield and married James White. May had no children at this time. May married David Stark in 1980. To this union two sons were born, Dewayne Scott Stark and Derek Martin Stark. She also had a stepson, David Anthony Stark. On Aug 13,1994, May married Jerry Scroggins and the couple celebrated 30 years of marriage until her untimely passing.
May worked at Springfield Public Schools from 1993-2010 as a bus attendant. She also worked at Walmart from 1998-2010 as a cashier. May loved to work with children and animals. She loved her dogs and cat May could be caught working in the yard and the garden and she loved her flowers. She loved to go to Branson to the Showboat Branson Belle and Silver Dollar City. She also loved to bowl and was in a bowling league. May also loved to spend time with her family and friends. May was saved by Jesus Christ at the end of her life.
May was preceded in death by her parents, Price and Lillie Martin; son, Dewayne Scott Stark; brothers, William Martin, Jay Martin, Paul Martin, Holles Martin, Lucky Martin, and James Martin; father-in-law, David Scroggins Sr.; mother-in-law, Thelma Scroggins; and uncle, Henry Conner.
May is survived by her husband, Jerry Scroggins of the home; son, Derek Stark and girlfriend Regina Livezey; stepson, David Stark and his wife April; in-laws, Jean Martin; brothers-in-law, David (Teresa) Scroggins, Danny (Debbie) Scroggins, Thomas Scroggins and Rebecca Anderson, Dorothy (Terry) Starkey, Rosemary (Robert) Christman, Virginia Howell, Elaine Vonrancow, and Mille Smith; grandchildren: Anthony Stark, Alexander Stark, Autumn Stark, Ryan Livezey, and Tiffany Livezey; special friends, Pat and Becky Guetzkow; and special cousin, Sarah Conner. May is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation for Lillie May Scroggins will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 am, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield. A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 11:00 am with burial services to be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, 11:00 am, in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
