Linda Mae Henson, 78, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away surrounded by the love of her family.
Linda was born on June 9, 1947, at Burge Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, to Suel and Lexie Stafford. She grew up just a half mile from the boy who would become the love of her life, Ronald Henson. Though they attended different high schools, their paths always seemed destined to meet. Shortly after Linda graduated, the two were married on August 7, 1965, beginning a loving partnership that would span nearly 61 years.
As Ronald served in the military, Linda embraced the life of a military wife with strength, grace, and devotion. Through the many moves and changes that came with military life, she remained the steady heart of her family. She was a dedicated mother and homemaker who created warmth and stability wherever they lived. Linda was gentle and caring, yet strong when she needed to be, always putting the needs of her family first.
Linda found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She had a deep love for her flowers, especially peonies. She also loved baking and sharing sweets with those she loved and took weekly treats to Southern Missouri Woodcarving Artists club. Buttermilk brownies were always a favorite, but her most beloved treat by far was carrot cookies. Outside her home, bird feeders were always filled, and she spent countless peaceful moments watching the birds, especially hummingbirds, flutter about. The squirrels that tried to steal the seed, however, were another story.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Suel and Lexie Stafford, and by her siblings George, Richard, Arthur Dean, and Charoletta.
She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 61 years, Ronald Henson of Springfield, Missouri; her son, Robert Henson of Dewey, Oklahoma; and her daughter, Lisa and her wife, Elizabeth Michaels, of Grapevine, Arkansas. She is also survived by her sisters, Bonnie Jo and Lou Kay.
Linda’s legacy continues through her grandchildren: Rachel and her husband, Kilian, of Bellevue, Washington; Lindsey and her wife, Morgan, of Sammamish, Washington; and Ashley of Fordyce, Arkansas. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.
Linda will be remembered for her quiet strength, her unwavering devotion to her family, and the warmth she brought into every home she made. Her love, kindness, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
