Lois Edna Wood, 92 of Springfield MO, passed away on Wednesday, May 18th, 2022 at 4:15 p.m. She was at peace, in her home, surrounded by loved ones.
Lois was born in Des Moines IA, March 31st 1930. She graduated from El Paso high school in Illinois in 1947. She met her husband John Wood, while attending Eureka college. She was a member of Delta Zeta sorority.
Lois and John were married in 1950 and celebrated 61 years together. They lived in McLean VA where she taught kindergarten for 19 years. One of her most memorable times was singing in the choir the week of the Billy Graham crusade in Washington DC. Upon retiring, they moved to Springfield MO in 1986 where she joined the National Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include son Jeff Wood and his wife (Pam), daughter Tami Presley and her fiancée (Larry Gibbons). Lois is also survived by four grandchildren, Jenifer Loebach, Shawn Loebach and his wife and daughter (Cassie and Aria), Rachel and her husband (Adam Whittemore), Michelle Wood and her partner (Michael Gerhardt). She also has many loving nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law, Sherilynn Poorbaugh.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, John, her son, John Jay, her brother, Bill Poorbaugh, and son-in-law, Dale Presley.
Her family extends their most heartfelt gratitude to Yvonne and Angel for their limitless kindness and love.
Visitation will be at Greenlawn Funeral Home (3506 North National, Springfield MO 65803) on June 2nd from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
A graveside memorial service will be held in the pavilion at Missouri Veterans Cemetery – Springfield (5201 South Southwood, Springfield MO 65804) on June 3rd from 2:00 to 2:20.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Lois’ name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
