Mae Mary Lee Stewart was born October 5, 1923, in Humansville, MO to Bill and Katie Smith. Mae graduated from Humansville High School, and married her brother’s best friend, Lester Stewart, on September 12, 1941. The couple welcomed their only child, Connie Mae, in September 1944. They lived in Springfield, MO.
Mae later worked at Royal Typewriter as one of the first employees hired in Springfield where she attained the position of department lead. Mae loved her little pink house on the corner and kept it surrounded with flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed fishing and went as often as she could along with her daughter’s family, husband Jerry Scott and their three kids. Mae and Lester loved cooking for the family and celebrated all the milestones in their lives.
Mae took great pleasure in traveling and saw many sites around the United States, even following the Lady Drury Panthers basketball team to Hawaii. Mae also loved playing the lottery, bingo, slot machines and games with her family.
Lester passed in 2005 after 64 years of marriage. Mae later lived with Connie and Jerry for 8 years before moving to Ozark Nursing and Care Center in Ozark, MO where she passed, on May 31, 2023. Mae is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Katie Smith, two brothers, Joe and Theodore, her beloved husband Lester Stewart, and grandson-in-law King Smith. She is survived by her daughter Connie and husband Jerry Scott, grandchildren Glenda Smith, Jeff Scott and wife Cora, and Cindy Scott, and great grandchildren James Pope and Sophia Scott, and nieces and nephews and their families.
Visitation will be held at Greenlawn East on Tuesday, June 6 at 1:00 p.m., followed by Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m., with burial following at Greenlawn North Cemetery.
