Marie M. Schuenemann, age 90 years, 8 months, and 15 days, of Ozark, Missouri, passed to be with Jesus on September 27, 2025, at her home. Marie was born to Earl and Muzie (Goin) Hawkins on January 12, 1935, in Crossroads, Missouri. The eldest of three children, Marie and her family resided in the Mound community near Merritt, Missouri, located in Douglas County.
Marie’s childhood days were filled with the love of playing outside, riding horses, and enjoying life on the ̈Old Home Place. She attended Mound school, a one-room school, from the first through the eighth grades, then attended and graduated from Ava High School in 1953. Marie worked her way through school by milking dairy cows each morning and evening. She often talked about the good days of high school and the many friends she made during that time.
Following high school, Marie met and married the love of her life, Harold W. Schuenemann. To this union two children were born: Patricia Anne and David Wayne. The family lived in Eureka, California, for several years before moving back to the Mound Community. Marie enjoyed traveling, gardening, oil painting, and watching old western movies. Many Saturday evenings were spent with her grandchildren playing board games, eating ice cream and popcorn, and watching television.
Marie was converted at an early age while attending Mound Fundamental Baptist Church. She later attended the Goodhope Church of the Nazarene and often attended churches her son-in-law pastored in Halltown, Missouri, Bolivar, Missouri, Ozark, Missouri, and Springfield, Missouri.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Muzie Hawkings; husband, Harold Schuenemann; sister, Pauline Swearengin; brother-in-law, Orville Swearengin; son, David Schuenemann; and grandson-in-law, Alphonso Cook.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Patricia Anne Sutherland and husband, Rodger; brother, Jerry Hawkins and wife, Janice; grandchildren: Christopher Sutherland and wife, Helen, Heather Cook, Ryan Sutherland and wife, Laura, and Tony Schuenemann and his mother. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren: Chase, Garrett, Ethan, Kately, and Brett Sutherland and Caden and Reece Cook as well as a host of nieces andnephews.
Graveside services for Marie will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, 2:00 pm, at Hall Cemetery, in Oldfield, Missouri. Officiating will be her son-in-law, Rev. Rodger Sutherland and great-grandson, Pastor Garrett Sutherland.
