Martha Allene (Stevenson) Owen, age 99, Sonshine Manor, Republic, Missouri went to be with Jesus her Lord and her beloved husband Oscar on Saturday June 21, 2014. She was born on January 5, 1915 at her home in Mumford, Mo. She worked at Newberry’s on the square in Springfield where she met Charles Oscar Owen. They were married on December 19, 1937 and enjoyed 68 years of marriage.
Allene was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar, her parents, William and Lela (Hildebrand) Stevenson, and her siblings; Tommy, Edith Murray, Irene Bass, Pearl Stepp, Willie McDonald, and Dorothy Dixon. She is survived by her three children, Charles and his wife, Lynne, of Leavenworth, Kansas, Jane Boatright and her husband, Dale, of Republic, Missouri, and Judy Dennis and her husband, Jack, of Walnut Grove, Missouri.
In addition, there are seven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Allene was a faithful member of Sunset Church of Christ. She was a devoted,
loving wife and a caring, nurturing mother and an example of true Christian love for all who knew her. She enjoyed piecing quilts, sewing, making apple butter, and writing poetry. She had a quick wit, a warm heart and never met a stranger, because everyone who met her loved her. She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home South, 441 W. Battlefield Road, Springfield, Missouri 65807 on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 from 4 – 6 p.m. Services will be held at the Sunset Church of Christ on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 10 a.m. with burial in White Chapel Cemetery following the services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Martha Allene Owen to the Fair Haven Children’s Home in Strafford or Preferred Hospices.
