Marvin Howard Wells passed away at the age of 81 on June 23, 2023, in Springfield, Missouri. Marvin was born on December 21, 1941, in Strafford, Missouri, to Lema and William Lloyd Wells. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Irlene and Leroy Yarbrough, and his sister-in-law, Roxanne Wells. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Wells, his brother, Melvin Wells, and his sister-in-law Mary Hunter.
Marvin was a devoted husband to his wife Barbara Wells, and a loving father to his children Marveenia Meek and her husband Mike Meek, Melceenia Ball and her husband Larry Ball, Montina Hartley and her husband Miles Hartley, Melisa Reynolds and her husband David Reynolds, and his son Mark Wells. He was also a doting grandfather to his grandchildren Brandon Meek, Kalee Ball, Caleb Ball, McKinley Hartley, Mason Hartley, Matia Hartley, Ashley Prieto, Matthew Reynolds, Maddison Reynolds, and Moxie Wells. Great-grandchildren Jupiter Ball, Baylor Hartley, Merrick Hartley, and Josi Prieto. He also had a slew of nieces and nephews who meant the world to him.
Marvin had a larger-than-life personality, an uncanny ability to find the best “shortcut” when traveling, and he was always up for a good time. Fresh out of high school, he joined the United States Navy eager to serve his country. Unfortunately, a medical issue cut those plans short, and he was honorably discharged.
He loved family gatherings, fishing, hunting, horse racing, and grilling for a large group. He was a proud member of both the Gate of the Temple Masonic Lodge Number 422 and the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine organization of Springfield, MO where he was dedicated to helping children in need. A born entrepreneur, he found many, many ways to provide for his family. He took pride in being the owner and operator of Wells Tire and Auto for over 55 years.
A celebration of Marvin’s life will be held at Greenlawn North on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m.
Let us all raise a cup to Marvin and remember the joy and laughter he brought into our lives. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
