Mary Joan “Jo” Toombs, 96, of Aldrich, Mo entered peacefully into rest on April 5, 2026. Jo was born in Humbolt, Iowa on December 30, 1929 to Vernon and Erma (Bryan) Scheel. Jo was the youngest child of 3 girls. Jo and her family moved to a farm outside of Aldrich, Mo in the early 1930’s. Jo attended the Pleasant Ridge School, a one room school near their home until 8th grade and then finished out her high school education at Marion C. Early High School in Morrisville, Mo. Jo married Ralph Toombs, the love of her life on May 14, 1948. They spent the early years of their marriage in Corpus Christi, Texas where Ralph was able to find work. They moved back to Ralph’s home farm outside of Aldrich in 1960. Jo dedicated her life to her family and community, raising 2 boys, working on the farm, helping friends and neighbors with anything that she could. She was an avid baker, making wedding cakes, sweets of all kinds, and countless pans of brownies. If you knew Jo you knew there would always be something sweet to be eaten at her house no matter when you stopped by. Jo has left a legacy of kindness and generosity with anyone she met. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Jo is preceded in death by her parents, Erma and Vernon Scheel, sister Dorothy Day, brother in law Irl Euliss, brother in law Merrill Leever, and husband Ralph. She is survived by her sister Lee Leever of Elwood, Indiana. Sons, Glen and wife Wilma, Gene and wife Franka. Grandchildren; Travis (Kari), Chad (Diana), Jesse (Hannah), Jacob, and Josie Toombs. Numerous nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, cousins, family, and friends. Funeral services will be Friday April 10th, 2026 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be an hour prior to service. Burial will be at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Aldrich.
