Mary Sue Baker, a beloved daughter, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on September 12, 1942, in Springfield, Missouri to Henry Elwyn and Helen Mae (Criger) Reed. Sue was raised in the middle of 4 sons, and was very dearly loved. She was a proud graduate from Poly High School in California and excelled as a Health Information Management Specialist at Cox South Medical Center, serving the healthcare community with great commitment and care.
A pillar of strength and resilience, Sue inspired her children, Richard and Christina, with her unwavering support and unyielding spirit. She was an affectionate mother, always nurturing, and her devotion was evident in all aspects of her life. She leaves behind a loving family, including her son Richard, her daughter Christina, daughter-in-law Laura, and cherished grandchildren, Gavin and Avery.
Sue was known for her vibrant personality and kind heart. As an active member of the Dale Street Methodist Church, she fostered community and friendship among her peers. Her love for music, particularly for her idol Wayne Newton, led her to proudly serve as the president of his fan club. Friends and family will remember her for her sweet nature and the joy she brought to every gathering.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Richard Gregory Reed.
Sue leaves behind her son and his wife Drs. Richard and Laura Baker, a daughter, Christina Baker, two grandchildren, Gavin and Avery Baker; and four brothers and their wives, Richard and Carolyn Reed, Robert and Patricia Reed, Michael and Kate Reed, and Ronald Philip and Kathryn Reed; as well as eight nephews and nieces, other family members and numerous friends.
A graveside service to honor Mary Sue Baker’s life will be held on December 6, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Prior to the service, visitation will take place at Greenlawn Funeral Home North at 1:00 PM, providing a time for loved ones to come together to celebrate her life and share memories.
Sue’s legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love she so generously gave during her lifetime
