Mickey E. Ray, 69, of Springfield, MO, passed away, at home, on August 10, 2021. He was born in Humansville, MO, to Robert G. Ray and Marjorie N. (Meeke) Ray, on August 21, 1951. He graduated Parkview High School, and got his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology from Drury University, in Springfield, MO. He met his wife of 49 years, Nancy (Martin) Ray, in 1969 and they were married on May 13, 1972. He had two children, a son Cody Ray, daughter Brandy (Ray) Andrews, two grandsons, Drew Ray, Dalton Andrews and one great grandson Jack Ray.
Mickey served two years in the Marines after High School and started his career with the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prison’s in October 1972. He worked at the Federal Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri for ten years before moving on to work at thirteen different institutions. He retired s a Northeast Regional Director for Federal Bureau of Prisons in Philadelphia, PA on January, 2004, at which time he returned to Springfield, Missouri with his wife.
He loved to hunt, fish, and cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs, Boston Celtics, help family with projects and working in his yard.
He is preceeded in death by his father Robert Ray, Grandparents, Eldon and Bernice Ray, Virgil and Jesse Meeke. He is survived by his wife Nancy, son Cody Ray, daughter Brandi (Ray) Andrews, great grandson Jack Ray, mother Marjorie Ray, sister Melissa Beach and her husband C.L. sister-in-law Pam Morgan and her husband Jim Morgan, brother-in-law Kelly Martin and his wife Janice Martin and aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mickey was a hard worker, lived a full and adventurous life and will be sorely missed.
