Milan Dale Altaffer, 59, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away the morning of Thursday, August 21, 2014 at his residence. He was born on October 7, 1954, in Wichita, KS. He graduated high school in England while the family was stationed overseas. He continued his education until reaching his Masters of Science degree in Engineering Management from Golden Gate University in California. Milan enlisted in the United States Air Force out of high school in 1973, obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1985, Milan began officer training school and finished his 24 years of honorable service with the rank of Captain. Milan was a loving, responsible and active person who loved spending time with his only grandchild Evelyn, his two dogs, horseback riding, boating, selling scrap metal, and going to auctions. He had a special talent for line and partner Western dancing, belonging to the Silver Spurs Western Dance Club. He was an active member of North Point Church in Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Ann Day- Altaffer; Grandparents William Altaffer and Irene Owens; Uncles and aunts, Lester Day, Leonard Day, Dewey Day, Marshal Day, Mildred Andrews, Ruth Peacock, and Geraldine Willis.
Survivors include his father Harlan Dale Altaffer and wife Mary Altaffer; Son David Brian Altaffer; Granddaughter Evelyn Altaffer; Sisters Charlette Davis, Charlene and husband Terry Procter, Lesley and husband Jonathan Griffin; Nephews and nieces, Brian Procter, Shawn Procter, Nathan Smith, Robert Davis, Sarah Griffin, Katie Smith, and Haley Smith; Great- niece and great-nephews, Kirsten Countryman, Jackson Procter, and Rider Procter; Uncles and aunts, Robert and Barbara Day, Ronald and Xiva Day, Larry Day, Arleta and Gerald Phelps; and many cousins and great-cousins.
Services will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at 11:30 a.m., in Greenlawn Funeral Home East. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 26, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Milan was a loving, caring, and giving person who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
