Mildred (Martin) German, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away at home on Thursday, July 28, 2022. She was 93 years old.
Millie was born at home, in a small farmhouse near Maple City, Kansas on August 16, 1928. She was the youngest child of Joseph Louis Martin and Louise Alice (Moran) Martin. Her four sisters (Rachel, Laura, Lodema and Virginia) and two brothers (Guy and Wayne) predeceased her.
Millie grew up near Kaw City, Oklahoma before moving with the family to Wichita, Kansas in the early 1940’s. She attended Wichita East High School for four years, graduating in 1946. After high school she accepted a job as secretary for Dun & Bradstreet in Wichita, where she was working when she met her life-long love and future husband, Richard German. They were married in Wichita’s Hillside Christian Church on March 31, 1955.
After their wedding, Millie quit her job to start their own family. Richard was assigned to travel throughout Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming for their first three years together, during which time sons Douglas and Stuart were born. Afterward Richard was assigned to Springfield Missouri, where Marty and Julie Beth were born. After leaving Dun & Bradstreet, her family moved to Cheney, Kansas and then Waukee, Iowa for Richard’s job with the federal government. In 1981 Richard and Millie moved back to Springfield and the Ozark mountains and lakes that they loved, choosing to live amongst the hickory trees and rolling hills just outside Ozark, Missouri.
Richard and Millie were devoted members of the Ozark Assembly of God. For years following retirement, Millie & Richard loved traveling throughout Mexico and Central America in their motorhome. They especially loved the people of Mexico, and volunteered each winter assisting Assembly of God missionaries in southern Mexico. Millie also loved writing; she wrote articles for the Ozark Headliner newspaper for several years, mostly based on her travels throughout Mexico, Israel and the Philippines. She also had articles published in The Pentacostal Evangel magazine.
Millie’s other great love was her grandchildren. She was a wonderful grandmother, blessed by the births of eight grandchildren (David, Mindy, Matthew, Emily, Nathan, Marshall, Erika, Jared) whom she loved dearly. Millie is survived by her husband, Richard, children: Douglas (married to Karen), Stuart (married to Jeanie), Marty (married to Christine) and Julie (married to Mark), her eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday August 6 at Ozark Assembly of God, with interment at 10:00 a.m. on Monday August 8 at the Springfield Veterans Cemetery.
