Mildred Marie Riley, age 98, of Springfield, MO, passed away on March 6, 2025, at Cox Medical Center South. Mildred was born to John Carl Menn and Eva Esta Menn on December 26, 1926 in Springfield, MO.
Mildred grew up, attended school, and met her husband Tonney Riley, in Springfield. They were united in marriage on April 16, 1945 in Hutchinson, Kansas. Mildred and Tonney shared 51 years of marriage before Tonney’s untimely passing on December 31, 1996.
Mildred had been employed with Central Missouri Counties Human Development Corporation of Columbia, MO, where she retired as finance director. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, and road trips. She leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love for her large family, a life-long love of Cardinals baseball, phone calls to friends and family far and wide because she was “just thinking of you.” You could count on her to tell “it like it is”, and when a problem arose, “it is what it is” was her mantra.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Tonney Riley, mother and father, Carl and Eva Menn, her sons William Anthony (Tony Bill) Riley and Robert T. Riley, a granddaughter Heather Riley, two brothers Robert and Louis Menn, and three sisters, JoAnne Lindsey, Winifred Jeanne Allen and Mary Evelyn Rose.
She is survived by two daughters, Myra Burns (Gary) and Tonnie Cook of Springfield, and a son Donald Riley (Martha) of Calico Rock, AR, a daughter-in-law, Sandy Riley, of Joplin, MO, and 13 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 13 great, great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at North Kansas Expressway Church of Christ, Springfield, MO. on Friday, March 14 at 10:00 a.m, with the service following at 11:00 a.m.. Burial will be in Fairland, OK with a graveside service at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Mildred’s memory to the BIBLEINSTITUTEOFMISSOURI.COM.
