On August 25th, 2021, Minnie Sue Green left this life and entered Heaven’s gates at the age of 89 years, 5 months, 8 days. Sue was born in Attica, Arkansas to Tive and Clara (Simington) Hurn on March 17th, 1932. Her early life was influenced by the Depression years and she learned to make do with what was available. Even though life was hard, her mother made sure her children had a Christian upbringing and plenty of love. Sue was a graduate of the 1950 class of Pocahontas High School. After high school, Sue moved to Detroit, Michigan to work. While there she met an Arkansas boy, Nildo (Jack) Green and on August 9th, 1951 they were married in Bowling Green, Ohio. She and Jack made their home in Detroit until the late 1950’s when they moved to Springfield, Missouri where they made their home. In 1952, they welcomed their son, Ron, and he was the light of their lives. In 2020, she moved to Assisted Living in Mountain Grove to be near her son. Sue was a cook for Pepperdine Elementary School and also for Kraft Foods. She was known as being a great cook and most especially for her hot rolls which were always asked for by her grandkids. Sue also had a sweet tooth and loved candy and cookies. She was also good at sewing and often hemmed or repaired clothes for friends. She crocheted Afghans and made some beautiful counted cross-stitch embroidery pictures. Sue was a devout Christian and attended the Methodist Church her entire life. She was a 50 year member of the Dale Street/ Pathways Methodist Church. During her years there, she was a member of the Rejoice Circle, United Methodist Women, and Wesley Sunday School class which she sometimes taught. She also helped at the annual Church Bazaar, Apple Butter Making Days and Chili Suppers. She not only read her Bible every day but studied it. She loved her family and as the grandchildren came along, everyone was welcomed regardless of blood relationship or by marriage and they in return loved her. Sue was a 2020 Covid survivor. She was wise, kind and compassionate. She would help anyone who needed it. Sue often said she wanted to go to sleep and wake up in Heaven. The Lord granted that request at Texas County Memorial Hospital, Houston, Mo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, in 2008, her parents, twin sister Mazie Wheeler, brothers, William “Moody” and Pete Hurn, an infant sister, Kathryn, a daughter- in- law Barbara Holcomb Green, brothers-in-law Bud Wheeler and Ted Bass.
She is survived by her son, Ron, and wife Denise, of Mountain Grove, Mo., a sister Clara Bass of Troy Missouri, grandchildren Brett Green (Christy) of Marshfield, Mo, Terry Green, Tim Green (Aleda), Ericka (Brandon) Sherrer, Grant (Kazumi) Holcomb, Joe (Becky) Holcomb, Josh (Chelsea) Holcomb, all of Springfield, Mo. , Elisa (Nick) Hewett of Bristol, Va., Jonathan Durney and Stephen (Sadie) Durney of Mountain Grove, Mo., twelve great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, sisters- in- law Roumilda and Theda Gaye Hurn and many nieces, nephews and friends.
