Tribute to Montiel – wife, mom, and “Honey”
We always knew she was an original, but just recently one of us typed her name into goggle and discovered that in all the US and Canada there was only one Montiel Peck!
Ron over and over has described Montiel as “The Rock of Gibraltar”. Those who knew her understand this-her strength of character and consistency is part of the foundation of their family. No matter what happened, her love and support was something the family could always count on.
An incredibly positive person, Montiel spread happiness wherever she went. Once, a missionary friend asked Ron, “How do you stand living with all that Joy?” The family has laughed about that ever since!
Montiel loved sports and, true to her Southern roots, was a loyal fan of The University of Alabama football team and the Atlanta Braves. She was an extremely enthusiastic fan-yelling loud for her team was part of the enjoyment!
If you spent any amount of time talking to Montiel, you know her love for a bargain. Couponing was her hobby. She loved saving money and kept a running record of how much she saved from her grocery budget every month. She also loved to bowl and put puzzles together.
She lived the word, spending time reading her Bible every day, writing down quotes in her journal which she’d share with people every year. She was an encourager, living to lift people up. The family is so glad she was able to get her book finished before she went to Heaven because that book will continue to encourage many people-just like Montiel always did!
It’s impossible to list all the things Montiel was good at-playing the piano and accordion, singing, cooking, entertaining, teaching Sunday school to young kids. But in all she did, she was Jesus’ hand extended. She was an extraordinary person and we were privileged to know her.
