Doris Mae Roach, 86, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and servant of Christ, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on February 25, 2025. Born on October 4, 1938, in Troy, Kansas, to George Andrew and Ruth Marie (Karn) Barnhill, Doris lived a life marked by faith, generosity, and unwavering love for her family, friends and community.
Doris met the love of her life, Allan Lyle Roach, and they were married on October 10, 1959. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and adventure—whether raising cattle, traveling the world, or serving their church. They shared 56 wonderful years of marriage before Allan’s passing in 2015.
Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Allan; her mother, Ruth Marie (Karn) Barnhill; her father, George Andrew Barnhill; her sister, Geneva McKernan; her brother, Lenard Barnhill; and her grandson, Aji. She is survived by her sister, Janice; her four children: Matthew (Sandra) Roach, Vichelle (Mulyanta) Darma, Marsha (Bryan) Gillett, and Malynne (Bob) Atkinson; her grandchildren: Chelsea, Kaylee, Karlee (Cody), Adinda, Asri, Iyan, Allan-Michael (Ashley), Noah (Morgan), Erica (Garrett), Cole (Tailor), Kennedy (Brett); and her great-grandchildren: Korbin, Jenson, Valerie, Briar, Bruin, and Maddox. Her loving family will continue to cherish and carry forward the values she instilled in them.
A woman of strong faith and an active member of the Church of Christ, Doris dedicated much of her life to serving and caring for others. She was baptized as an adult at the Argentine Church of Christ in Kansas City and spent countless hours creating children’s curriculum in the Resource Room. She also owned the Mustard Seed Christian Bookstore, where she not only provided resources but also traveled to teach Bible School workshops. Doris had a heart for welcoming others—she and Allan “enhanced” their family with the adoption of Matthew and Malynne and unofficially adopted 12+ graduate students from Thailand and Indonesia, as well as taking several under her wing over the years providing them with a loving home away from home and treating them like family.
Her work ethic and passion for helping others extended beyond the church. She worked as a Mary Kay consultant for 35 years, volunteered at Thrift Haven, and found joy in quilting, cooking, and gardening. Whether offering a meal, a place to stay, or a listening ear, Doris embodied the love of Christ in all she did. She was independent, hardworking, and deeply loyal—traits that defined her life and the lives she touched.
Doris’s legacy will endure through the kindness she showed, the faith she nurtured in her family, and the love she generously gave to all who knew her. While she will be deeply missed, her family finds peace in knowing she has been welcomed home in the hands of The Lord. Just as she believed and lived by, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20)
A Celebration of Life will be at Noon on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Union Hill Church of Christ, 865 N. Nicholas Road, Nixa, MO.
