Nancy Joan “Mother Dear” Creson Vaughn Hileman

Nancy Joan Vaughn Hileman, age 91, a resident of Half Way, Missouri, passed away from a short illness Sunday morning, February 6, 2022, at the Colonial Springs Healthcare Center  in Buffalo, Missouri where she had been a resident for the past 4 months.

Joan was born July 13, 1930 in Strafford, Missouri. She was the youngest of three daughters born to Floyld Earl “Doc” and Juanita Audrey (Hance) Creson.  Joan grew up in the Strafford area and attended  elementary school there. She  graduated second in her class from  Fair Grove High School class of 1948.

On December 3, 1949, Joan was united in marriage to James Robert Vaughn in Billings, Missouri.  He preceded her in death on November 5, 1997.  They were married for 47 years. She later married Donald Hileman in Arkansas on July 16th, 2001. Don preceded her in death in 2019. They were married for 18 years.

Joan loved watching sports. Her favorite teams were the Lakers and the St. Louis Cardinals.  She also enjoyed quilting, embroidering, playing the piano or organ, and RV’ing.  She was a member and worked at Treasure Lake Resort. She loved reading the Bible and was of the Baptist faith. Bob and Joan enjoyed winters in Arizona and Texas and Don and Joan enjoyed many winters camping in Donna, Texas.

After Don passed in 2019, Joan moved back to Missouri with family.  She was able to regain her health and loved spending the past two summers with her cat Emily  in her “home” camper.  Here she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include: her children: Dennis (Sheri) Vaughn of Brighton, Missouri and Darren (Robin) Vaughn of Halfway, Missouri, daughter-in-law Rhonda Vaughn of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren: Jeremy Barker, Josh Love, Ethan (Shelby) Vaughn, Kelsey (Austin) Fairbairn, Danielle (Kodi) Poindexter, Jay (Chelsey) Vaughn, Cazy (Trisha) Vaughn, and Rachel Vaughn, Angela Edmonds and Ryan (Luanne) Edmonds; several great-grandchildren; Step-children: Larry (Debbie) Hileman of Vienna, Ill and Renee (Dennis) Anderson of Grand Chain; step grandchildren: Amy Trovillion, Jeremy Hileman, Chas Hileman, Josh Hileman, Brandon Hileman, Shawn Hileman, Devin Hileman, Charles Ebersohl, Heidi Anderson, Angela Jones, and Dustin Anderson;  several step-great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, many friends and her beloved cat, “Emily.”

In addition to her parents and both husbands, Joan was preceded in death by: a son Robert Joe Vaughn; 2 grandchildren Rari and Wally; and her two sisters Elizabeth and Margaret.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 8th from 4:00-6:00 pm at Greenlawn North Funeral Home, Springfield, Missouri. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, February 9th at 10:00 am at the Pleasant Hope Cemetery, Pleasant Hope, Missouri.
