Nancy Kathryn Brown, age 81, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 2, 2023. She was born on a Wednesday, February 26, 1941, in Dubuque, Iowa. She attended high school in Houston, Texas, Burge School of Nursing (LPN), and Drury University (BSN). Nancy was an instructor at OTC College of Nursing and coordinated the start-up of the LPN program.
Nancy married Richard Morris Brown on March 14, 1972, in Miama, Oklahoma. She attended Northside Baptist church where her son-in-law pastored. She was a loyal volunteer at the church. Volunteered at “Weekend of Hope”, a week long summer camp for youth. She began her career as an LPN, became a Registered Nurse, and received a BSN in nursing. She loved crosswords, pottery, weaving, and church, and always enjoyed cooking incredible meals to show her love to others. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Brown, who passed away in 2000, her step-mother, Gladys Metz, great-grandma & grandpa Bartlet, grandma & grandpa Metz, her mother, Katherine Metz, 2 sisters, Barbra Flueckiger & Tanya Amyx, her aunt Fern, grandson, Joseph Martinez, and nephew, Eric Flueckiger.
She is survived by her father, LeVern Metz, daughter, Gwendolyn Stevens and husband David, son, Russell Cobb, and daughter, Pamela Martinez and husband Jose Martinez. Also surviving are grandchildren; Jessica Martinez, Abram Martinez, Anna Martinez, Jonah Cobb, and Alyssa Sammons-Martinez, great-grandchildren; Jordan Martinez, Jesslyn Martinez, Q.W., Ezra Rogers, Topher Martinez, Aurora Martinez, Astrea Martinez, Aramis Martinez, nieces and nephews; Richard & Gail Fluckiger, Kathy Morrison, and Steve Laughlin.
There will be a Louisiana style “Celebration of Life” service on Friday, January 6, 2023, 12:30pm, at Greenlawn Funeral Home South with black and white casual dress.
