Nancy Susan Johnson, age 78, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on June 11, 2025 at Mercy Hospital Springfield. Nancy was born to Clarence Johnson and Margaret (Huddleston) Johnson on March 4, 1947 in Springfield, Missouri. She was raised in Alton, Missouri and graduated from Alton High School in 1965. Nancy was united in marriage to James David Johnson, of Alton, Missouri, on June 17, 1967 in Alton. Nancy and David shared 57 years of marriage before Nancy’s untimely passing. The couple were blessed with two children, Tracey and Tyler.
Nancy was employed for 28 years at Social Security Administration in Springfield, where she worked as a service representative, helping those in need, as was her nature. When not working, she continued her devotion to serving others, as well as the Lord, through her dedication to her church family, at Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church. She served many roles in the church, and was heavily involved with the KIT group, music programs, children’s programs and community outreach. She enjoyed attending music and events at Silver Dollar City, participating in regular SSA retiree luncheons and playing Bunco with both church and work friends. She was proud of her role as a grandmother (aka Nanny) and enjoyed spending time with her immediate and extended family.
Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Clarence, and mother, Margaret. She is survived by her husband, David Johnson; daughter, Tracey Susan (Johnson) Adair of Springfield; son, Tyler Shane Johnson of Chicago, Illinois; brother Craig Johnson, and his wife Kathy of Alton, Missouri; grandchildren Cooper, Ellie and Greyson Adair, all of Springfield; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Nancy will be held on Sunday, June 15 at Greenlawn South Funeral Home in Springfield, Missouri, from 5-7pm. Services for Nancy will be held on Monday, June 16 at Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church in Springfield at 11am, with burial to follow at Huddleston Cemetery in Alton, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Nancy’s memory to Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks (bcfo.org), or to Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church (JABC.churchcenter.com/giving – select “Nancy Johnson Memorial Fund” from the drop down menu).
