Born: November 25, 1920
Died: February 9, 2021
Nellie Jackson, 100, was called home in the early hours of Tuesday morning, February 9, 2021, at her residence in Cuba, MO.
Nellie was born in Grovespring, MO, to Claude Kendrick and Ethel Deckard. Nellie grew up and attended school in the Amity community. She married and moved to Springfield, retiring from the Missouri Office of Employment Security.
Nellie loved her family more than anything. She cherished her family pictures that hung on her walls, writing letters to her nieces and nephews, and enjoyed sewing and cross stitching later in life. Nellie beat the odds and survived breast cancer in her early 90’s. Though dementia quickly set in, Nellie was able to be coherent and live life as well as she could until she could no longer care for herself. Those that knew Nellie as a young woman always commented on how classy, sophisticated and well mannered she was. Within her last year of life, her health faded quickly, though she was able to celebrate her 100th birthday with loved ones at her side.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and their wives, Bill & Lois Kendrick, Lloyd & Mildred Kendrick, and Lowell & Mable Kendrick; daughter Patricia Bryant, granddaughter Tawney Zajkowski, as well as other beloved friends and family members.
Nellie is survived by grandson David Zajkowski of St. James, MO; great-granddaughter Courtney Hinson & husband Justin of Owensville, MO, countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and a great deal of friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 from 12-1 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield, MO. Funeral service will follow at 1pm led by Marshall Bruner. Graveside service to conclude held at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
