Nellie M. Barner (Shaffer) 93 passed away October 7, 2023 in Springfield, MO. She was born in Elkland, MO October 21, 1929 and attended school in Charity, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents David and Bertha Shaffer, 2 sisters Alice East and Catherine East, 5 brothers Sam, Lee, Farrel, David, and Elzia.
Nellie is survived by 2 daughters; Angie Grelle (husband Bruce) and Marla Smith (husband Steve), 3 granddaughters; Cassie Johnson (husband Jacob), Danielle Hartsell (husband Nate), and Emily Hale (husband Dave), and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She retired from Springfield Public Schools food service after 28 years. She was a member of South Gate Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Season’s Hospice.
