Norma Jean Lorenz, age 92, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on July 6, 2025, at CoxHealth Medical Center South. Norma was born June 26, 1933 in Stone County, MO. She was the daughter of Roy and Gladys Penny . She graduated Clever High School in 1951. Her life was grounded in faith, family and service to others.
Norma made her home in Springfield. She worked for many years at Kraft Foods in the office. Norma was united in marriage to Fred Lorenz on January 13, 2011 in Springfield, MO.
Norma was a member of Water Mill Church of Christ. Her faith was quiet but unwavering, always shown more through action than words. She was active through many church groups and activities. She was one of the first to volunteer for Thrift Haven Resale Shop that benefits Fair Haven Children’s Home. She made over 600 bears through the Caring Creation program at church. The bears were given to children in emergency rooms. She enjoyed making numerous cancer caps. Being a grader of the “Know Your Bible” program at church was a big joy for her. She served on the funeral committee, helped at Vacation Bible School, etc. Norma also enjoyed sewing, gardening and watching the birds in their yard. She was a member of the Marine Corps League Ladies Auxiliary, #386.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Gladys Penny; brother, Al Penny; sister, Julia Denwalt. She is survived by her husband Fred Lorenz; daughter Sheri Duncan (Donny) of Nixa, MO; daughter Deborah Meinsen (Jim) of Galena, MO; daughter Pamela Williams (Ronnie) of Olive Branch, MS ; sister-in-law Patti Penny of Springfield, MO; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many friends.
A visitation for Norma will be held on Thursday, July 10th, 2025, 5:00-7:00 PM, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield, Missouri. A Funeral Service for Norma will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Greenlawn Funeral Home North conducted by Minister Daniel Meinsen. A burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Fair Haven Children Home, 3132 N Fairhaven Loop, Strafford, MO 65757 in Norma’s honor, an organization close to her heart.
