Norman “Dennis” Smith
To say that Dennis was unique is an understatement. He had an unbound passion for those he loved, for golf, for his beloved sports teams, and for living life largely. After a courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at the age of 72, Norman “Dennis” Smith of Kansas City, Missouri, went to Heaven with his family by his side.
Dennis was born on November 18, 1950, in Boonville, Missouri, to Adella Patrick Smith and Delbert N. Smith. He attended Boonville High School, class of 1968 and was a proud graduate of the University of Missouri, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre. In 1974, he earned a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Acting and Directing from the University of Oklahoma. He used his theatre and acting skills on a daily basis and was both a proud Tiger and Sooner for life.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Adella Smith. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Terri Warren Smith and his only child, Kaitlin Smith Dean of Louisville, Kentucky.
Dennis’ passion for the game of golf was ignited when he proudly beat his father by several strokes at a very young age. His many golf achievements included qualifying for the Missouri Amateur Championship, several amazing holes in one, and traveling to play many of the world’s greatest courses, including St. Andrews in Scotland.
Dennis has a distinguished career in Insurance and Financial Services. He cherished the many close personal relationships he developed with those he hired and mentored while in management, as well as the clients he advised in reaching their financial goals throughout his career. N. Dennis Smith, CLU, ChFC, AIF retired in 2021 as a Senior Wealth Financial Advisor with BankWest Investment Services.
When not playing golf, Dennis loved watching the Royals, his beloved Kansas City Chiefs, and all Mizzou sports. Dennis left a legacy of fun, love and laughter. He was often considered the entertainment wherever he was present.
In honoring his wishes, he will be buried at Greenlawn Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri, after a brief private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge – Kansas City, which provides a free home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers who have to travel from out-of-town to receive cancer treatment.
