Ora Marie (Scroggins) Phillips was born on August 11, 1932 in Slagle, Mo to Henry and Loretta (Dilday) Scroggins. On December 11,1954 she married the love of her life, Herbert H. Phillips. Ora was a dedicated and servant-hearted member of Baptist Temple for over 65 years. Ora loved retelling stories of Sunday School outings, pot luck dinners/picnics and some of her favorite church services. Her happiest moments were having family worship with her on a Sunday Morning.
Ora (and Herb) spent many years giving time and energy serving others of their community, especially those with special needs. Ora served as a charter member of the Springfield Special Olympics, A Sporting Chance and the Springfield Park Board Special Needs Adult Program. Her dedication to family and others were evident in many capacities. If there was an event, Ora and Herb would be there to volunteer, to cheer on or to support the program in any way possible.
Ora spent her entire life caring and nurturing those around her. She cared for and loved her siblings, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. If you had the honor of meeting or spending time with Ora, you would soon learn to and be asked to call her Nanny. She became a mother and a grandmother to many friends and neighbors. Ora’s calling was having a servant’s heart and to love others well.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Herb, three children, Debbie, Cindy and Andy Burk. She is survived by her sons Steven Phillips and Ralph Phillips, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren who loved her dearly.
Funeral Services will be on Friday, June 23 at Greenlawn North Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 2pm with service beginning at 3pm. Dr. Bill Dowell, Jr will officiate. Interment will follow at Slagle Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Springfield Park Board Accessible Recreation Office, 305 E Talmadge, Springfield, Mo. 65803
