Oscar Luis Medina, 81, of Republic, Missouri, (formerly of Chicago, Illinois and then Romeoville, Illinois) passed away on August 11, 2021, at his home in Republic, Missouri. He was born June 9, 1940, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Oscar was a Diesel Mechanic, retiring from Willowbrook. He served 3 years active duty in the U.S. Army, being honorably discharged on November 28, 1960. Following that tour of duty, he also served 3 years in the United States Army Reserve, being discharged October 31, 1963. Oscar was an avid baseball fan.
Oscar married Delores J. Medina on June 26, 1982, in Joliet, Illinois. She survives.
He was preceded in death by his father; Martin Medina, mother; Rosa Medina Salazar, and his first wife, Amalia Medina Contreras. Also, preceding him in death was 1 sister, Sagrario Rivera Salazar, 1 brother-in-law; Rolando Rivera, 2 sisters -in-law; Sandra Medina and Josefina Vazquez Ramirez, and 1 son; Abraham Medina.
Oscar is survived by his wife Delores J. Medina, 2 daughters; Sonia (John) Leadingham and Rebecca Moore, 1 step-son, Scott Lemaster and his spouse, Shane Knox, 1 daughter-in-law; Kelly Medina, 6 grandchildren; Cole Medina, Noah Medina, Seth Moore, Alexander Baron, Emma Leadingham, Travis Leadingham, 3 brothers; Dr. Juvenal Medina and spouse Eufemia Lorenzo Martinez, Alfonso Medina, Benjamin Medina and spouse Sandy Medina, and 2 sisters; Rosa Medina Salazar and spouse Ricardo Andres Rodriguez Ortiz and Miriam Medina Salazar. Oscar is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service is scheduled for Friday, September 3, 2021, 1:00pm, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood Rd. in Springfield. He will be laid to rest with full military honors.
