Patricia Ann Dorsey, age 76, beheld her final sunset on November 28, 2022, surrounded by family at her home in Springfield. On July 15, 1946, along with her parents, Jonnie and Willie Mae Dorsey, Patricia smiled upon her first sunrise in the beautiful city of Augusta, Georgia. While Patricia enjoyed many of her younger years in the southern state of Georgia, she would eventually move north to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Patricia soon began working at a sponge factory within the Olde Kensington neighborhood in north Philadelphia. Shortly after being hired, Patricia joined Local Teamsters 115 and remained an active member for more than 20 years. Patricia was a smart, loyal, and hardworking employee. Those traits, combined with common sense and a strong desire to help others, led to several promotions. Most notably, Patricia became the first African American woman in the Philadelphia area to become an arbitrator for the Teamsters. After more than 30 years of distinguished and highly praised service, Patricia retired as an arbitrator and moved to Springfield. Patricia’s greatest blessing in life was being a mother to Darrel and a grandmother to Shania and Dylan
At an early age, Patricia surrendered her life to Christ. She remained an active church member for the rest of her life and continued to serve the Lord by serving others. She had the voice of an angel and used her God-given talent to bless many church choirs and congregations. Patricia loved to share her testimony and, more importantly, she loved to be in prayer with her Lord and Savior. Patricia had many hobbies and interests including, but not limited to, supporting the Kansas City Chiefs, watching classic westerns, listening to Shirley Caesar’s classic gospel albums, and sitting down to big Sunday dinners. For several years, Patricia served as a polling volunteer on the northside of Springfield. Given her love of politics and community service, she really enjoyed her time as an election volunteer. Patricia’s legacy of unconditional love, hospitality, generosity will forever shine in each life she so tenderly touched.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie Wesley and Wille May Dorsey; granddaughter and best friend, Shania Tennessee; and brothers, Rodney Dorsey and Robert Dorsey. She is survived by her son, Darrell and wife Tammi; grandson, Dylan Gipson; sister, Barbara Johnson and husband Lee; brother, Johnnie Dorsey, Jr. and wife Juanita; and brother, Michael Dorsey.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Patricia Ann Dorsey will be held on December 9, 2022, 3:00 pm, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield (3506 N. National), with pastor George Compton officiating.
