Peggy Lawson, of Springfield, passed away on July 6, 2022, at the age of 85. Peggy was born Peggy Hamilton on November 13, 1936, in Knoxville, Tennessee to William and Margaret Hamilton. Peggy lived in Sevierville, Tennessee, for several years and moved with her mother and brothers to Springfield in 1952 where she graduated from Central High School in 1954. She married Sherdell Lawson in 1954, and they had two children, Lori Annette and Jeffrey Lane.
Peggy worked in the banking industry for 45 years, starting at Citizens Bank in the 1950s, and moving to Union National Bank after the birth of her daughter. After years in the proof department at Boatmen’s Union National Bank, she eventually became branch manager of several locations. In 1986, she became the president of the Assemblies of God Credit Union, where she worked until her retirement in 2004. After only a few years of retirement, Peggy began working again, spending nine years as a receptionist in the dental offices of Drs. John and Jeff Heard.
Peggy’s life was devoted to preparing to meet her savior, Jesus Christ. She ministered over the years in several ways—singing with her family’s singing group, The Travelers, working in the nursery at Central Assembly of God, and finally as an active member at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, where she enjoyed being a part of the choir.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 55 years, Sherdell, and her brother Kenneth Hamilton. She is survived by her daughter Lori Morgan and husband Ron, her son Jeffrey Lawson, granddaughter Mandy Coday and husband Connor, brother Ted Hamilton and his wife Kim, and several beloved nieces and nephews of the Hamilton and Palmer families. Peggy loved and appreciated all the friends she made through the years, especially the friends from her church.
Lori and Jeffrey would like to thank the remarkable staff at Compassus hospice, and especially all the caregivers who made it possible to keep Peggy at home during her final illness: Debbie Remy, Jackie and Mike Murphy, Unia Kiima, and Kelley Coday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church choir or missions fund.
