Peggy Kathleen Jacobsen, 89, of Morrisville, Missouri, passed away October 29, 2024 with her husband by her side. Peggy was born on November 8, 1934 in Cloquet, Minnesota, and was raised in Cloverdale, Illinois by her grandparents, Uncle Bill and Jenny Bloom. She graduated from East Peoria Community High School in 1952. Peggy married her high school sweetheart, Donald Jacobsen, on April 25, 1953, in Peoria and to this union four children were born: Gary, Teri, Scott, and Mike.
Peggy joined Don at Fort Lewis, Washington at the conclusion of the Korean War, and it was there they had Gary. They returned to Central Illinois after the Army where Teri was born. Peggy then started the most important career of her life: homemaker. Eight years after Teri, came Scott and then Mike right after. Don and Peggy moved the family to Duluth, Georgia. While in Georgia, Peggy worked as an EKG Technician at Joan Glancy Hospital in Duluth. With an itch for the Great White North, Don and Peggy moved to Marshall, Wisconsin, where they remained until they retired. In 1990, Don and Peggy retired early and moved to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. They built a real log cabin by hand and their children came from all around the country to help. After finishing the cabin, they started traveling. When they were on the road they received offers on their handmade log home with handmade furniture, Peggy designed and Don made every piece of furniture in their home. Don and Peggy sold their home and hit the road in their RV. They spent the next 7 years traveling from coast to coast, doing volunteer work in some of the most beautiful places in the United States, from the Cape Blanco Lighthouse in Oregon to the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge in Brazoria County, Texas. When the time came to settle down once again, Don and Peggy found their special home in Morrisville, Missouri, and have been here for the past 18 years. Peggy and Don attended The Lighthouse of Hope Church in Morrisville, where Peggy played the organ when the church received it. She also enjoyed playing the piano, painting, reading, and quilting; she made quilts for all her grandchildren, plus she and Don always enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles together.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Donald Jacobsen, her children: Gary and wife, Pam, of Salisbury, MD, Teri Adamson, and husband, John, of Bryan, TX, Scott and wife, Tami, of Madison, Alabama, and Michael, and wife, Laure, of Winchester, KY; six grandchildren: Zachary, Morgan, Danielle, Garrett, Jordan, and Allie, and two great-grandchildren: Rylie and Waylon, and one more on the way, baby Collins.
A celebration on Peggy’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Lighthouse of Hope church in Morrisville.
