Peggy Ruth Hedgpeth, 75, born to her mother and father, Sybil Audina (Eason) McIlroy and Ovie Dee McIlroy passed away in her home on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024. Peggy grew up in Springfield, Missouri until second grade. The family then moved to Logan-Rogersville, Missouri where she attended school with her brother, Steven Dee McIlroy.
In 1967, Peggy married Larry Hedgpeth. In 1968, their first child, Kimberly Hedgpeth was born. Larry was deployed by the Army to VietNam from 1967 – 1969. After the birth of Kim and the end of Larry’s deployment, they returned to Springfield where they had twin sons, Kinley and Kevin Hedgpeth. Peggy was busy as a wife and mother, but she also had time to play golf at Twin Oaks Country Club, where she was a championship golfer. She and Larry opened several Springfield stores called Designer Outlet. After “retiring” from the stores, she went to work at Big Cedar Wilderness Club where she enjoyed meeting and talking with people from all over the United States and sharing her love of the Ozarks.
Peggy loved music and taught many local children private piano lessons. She loved attending local and regional productions of musicals and choirs. Peggy was a hard core Lady Bears fan. She had season tickets to the games for many years, even after her daughter graduated from Missouri State. Peggy could often be found puttering in her garden where she grew flowers and vegetables that she shared with her friends and family. Peggy adored spending time with her friends and family and especially her beloved granddaughter, Kylen.
As a lifelong resident of Springfield, Peggy ran into people she knew wherever she went. She also enjoyed meeting new people and could strike up a conversation with literally anyone. She was generous with her time and money and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help.
Peggy is survived by her daughter Kim Hedgpeth, daughter in law, Janet Crews, and the joy of her life, 19 year old granddaughter, Kylen Crews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, and both of her twin sons. It is comforting to know that she now walks with them and especially our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Visitation for Peggy will be at 11:00 am with a service at 12:00 pm at South Haven Baptist Church on Saturday, September 14th. There will be a private family interment at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Janet’s Wish or Care to Learn.
