Peggy Sue Gammill, 83, of Springfield, Missouri passed away on September 12, 2024, at her home. Peggy was born to Sherman and Geraldine Coburn Hackworth on March 8, 1941, in Leachville, Arkansas, and was raised in Kennett, Missouri. Peggy was united in marriage to Tom Gammill on May 12, 2008, in Nixa, Missouri. Peggy was blessed with two children, Kim Pylant and Keith Privett.
Peggy was a special education teacher at Glendale High School for many years until her retirement. After her retirement, she worked at Greene County Freight for several years, where she made many new friends and always enjoyed visiting with her customers. Peggy loved reading, listening to music, and traveling, especially to visit family and friends. She was so proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she and Tom enjoyed attending many birthday parties, sporting events, graduations, and family weddings over the years.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law, Bertha Gammill; two brothers, James and Mayford Hackworth; and infant grandson, Adam Evans. She is survived by her husband, Tom; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Dave Pylant of Springfield; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Lisa Privett of Jonesboro, Arkansas; step-daughter and son-in-law, Nikki and Thomas Dugger; step-son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Robin Gammill all of Springfield. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: granddaughters, Kristen (Alex) Griffith, of Memphis, Tennessee, and Amanda Evans of Memphis, Tennessee; grandsons, Tyson (Lindsay) Privett of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Kyle Gammill, Adrian (Ashley) Gammill, Cierra Gammill, Paul Alexander, Skylar Khoshekh, Heather Gammill, and Tonya (Ryan) Wolnik; five great-grandchildren: Banks, Hunt, Drew, and Rhodes Griffith and Sutton Privett, and several step-great grandchildren. Peggy also leaves behind two sisters: Shelby Jean (Jim) Pelts of Kennett, Missouri, Shirley (Charles) Kimbrough of Alabama; and one brother, Kenneth Hackworth of Newark, Arkansas.
A Celebration of Life visitation will be held Friday, September 20, 2024, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield.
