Phillip Clyde Gantt, age 77, of Verona, Missouri, passed away on February 6, 2025, at his son and daughter-in-law’s home in Springfield, Missouri. Phillip was born to Clyde Gantt and Alberta June Barry on December 28, 1947, in Windsor, Missouri. He was raised in Springfield and graduated from Central High School in 1965. Phillip was united in marriage to Sondra Maybell McDaniel on October 5, 1969, in Springfield, Missouri. Phillip and Sondra shared 50 years of marriage before Sondra’s untimely passing on October 27, 2019. Phillip proudly served in the United States Army for three years before his honorable discharge in 1974. The couple was blessed with two sons, Phillip Tracy Gantt and Shawn Jeremy Gantt.
Phillip was employed as a welder for eighteen years. Over the course of his career, Phillip held other jobs including handyman and carpenter. When not working, he had many interests and pastimes including fishing and hunting. Nothing, however, brought him more fulfillment than tinkering around the family homestead. Phillip will be remembered as a proud American, honest, trustworthy, and very proud of his family.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Alberta Gantt; his wife, Sondra Gantt; his sisters, Lori Stone and Janet McDaniel; and his great- granddaughter, Ashley Kathryn. Phillip is survived by his sons, Phillip Tracy Gantt and his wife, Amanda Gantt, and Shawn Jeremy Gantt and his wife, Sheila Gantt; grandchildren: James and Brian Hougland, Alexander and Zadie Gantt, Shyanne and Sheldon Gantt; and great-grandsons, Roman and Robert Brown.
A funeral service for Phillip Clyde Gantt will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025, 2:00 pm, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North with burial to follow immediately in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Phillip’s memory to the Veterans Administration.
