Ray Junior Burrell, son of Ray Stephen Burrell and Margaret Ann (McBride) Burrell, was born on September 19,1929 in Humansville, Missouri. He departed this life on September 22,2014 at Mercy Hospital at the age of 85 years old.
Ray was united in marriage to LaVerne Ray on March 7 ,1953. To this union three children were born. Ray was a math teacher and administrator for 41 years serving in the Humansville and Springfield Public Schools. Ray and LaVerne made their home in Springfield since 1955. He was a member of the National Heights Baptist Church. He served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Minister of Youth, and on many church committees. Ray was the most happy when he was with his family. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He served his country in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of 61 years; three daughters and their husbands: Rae Ann and Bryan Feemster of Springfield, Ellen and Jack Lambeth of Springfield, Beth and Brian Hall of Battlefield; eight grandchildren: Jenette and husband Landon Hough, Shannon and husband James Lair, Rebekah and husband Patrick Blakely, Jaclyn Feemster, Micah and Mason Lambeth, Jacob and Caleb Hall, four great-grandchildren: Nolan and Molly Lair, Ellie and Kate Hough, a sister Jo Ann Moulder, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at 11:00 AM at National Heights Baptist Church, Springfield, MO with Vaughn Weatherford and Tom Maples officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
