After graduating high school, Ray moved to New York City, and got a job selling ladies shoes at a department store. He soon learned, as he told the story, that the “Big City Life”, was not for him. He moved back home and made the decision to join the Marine Corp. He served honorably during the Vietnam War and for four more years. He discharged from the military as a sergeant. Ray came back home, following his military service, and enrolled in college in Connecticut. Upon graduating with his Associates Degree, he accepted a position with Glen Raven Mills, and his next journey began. He would work and retire after 30 years as a Regional Sales Manager. Following retirement, Ray and Greta had many adventures together, traveling, and going back and forth between Florida, where they had a winter home, and Missouri.
Ray enjoyed family gatherings, playing golf, fishing, and good conversations and tending to “the farm”. Most of all Ray loved God, his country, his beloved golf, and his family.
There will be a Celebration of Life service for Ray on Saturday, November 20, 2021, 1:00pm, at Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Ray will be laid to rest with military honors in Missouri Veterans Cemetery on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 12:00pm.
