Richard Wayne Walker of Strafford, Missouri was born November 23, 1946, in Nettleton, Arkansas to Herbert and Edna Walker. He passed away October 22, 2022, in Springfield, Missouri at the age of 75.
Richard grew up in Nettleton, Arkansas and graduated from Nettleton High School in 1964. He married Karla Faye Potter on June 1, 1966, at the Nettleton Church of God and would spend the rest of his life with her raising a family together. Richard served in the United States National Guard from 1967-1972. Throughout his life, Richard was a jack of many trades. He was a farmer, mechanic, teamster, truck driver, and owned a golf cart business. He had also been involved in many organizations for community service including Make A Wish in Mountain Home, Arkansas, St. Jude’s, Antique Tractor Association of Mtn. Home, and Tractor Clubs. After moving to Missouri, Richard was also an active member of High Street Baptist Church.
Not only was Richard involved in community service, but he also received many awards and honors throughout his life. Richard was awarded a sharpshooter medal in the National Guard, provided his tractors for “Walk the Line” and “A Painted House,” and was honored with multiple awards for tractor pulling. He loved to ride dirt bikes, collect antiques, pull tractors, and spend time with his family camping and skiing.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother and father, Herbert and Edna Walker; brother, James Floyd Walker; sister, Peggy Walker Brooks (Bobby Brooks); and father-in-law, Billy Potter.
He is survived by his wife, Karla Faye Walker; children, Christy Walker Duffel and husband Steven Duffel, and Stacy Walker Soden and husband Brett Soden; grandchildren, Karly Soden, Seth Soden, and Christa Duffel; sister, Helen Walker Price and husband Dalton Bruce Price; nieces and nephews, Debbie Price Lassiter (Farris Lassiter), Patti Price, Steve Brooks, Brian Brooks, Bill Doug Potter (Kathy Potter), Kaleigh Beeson (Blake Beeson), Olivia Potter, and Kerri Sagraves (Brad Sagraves); cousins, Danny Walker and Jerry Walker; mother-in-law, Claudia Potter; brother-in-laws Gary Potter (Charlotte Potter), and Tim Potter (Shawn Potter); sister-in-law, Karen Murphy (Charles Murphy); and many more cousins, great nieces and nephews, tractor pulling buddies, and lifelong friends.
Visitation will take place at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, 3540 Seminole St, Springfield, MO, 65809, on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Funeral Service will begin at 3:00 pm. Interment will be at Dishman Cemetery in Strafford, MO.
In lieu of flowers, Richard’s family has asked for donations to be made to High Street Baptist Church Missions, 900 N. Eastgate Ave, Springfield, MO, 65802.
