Robert Edward Gilpin died on Monday, January 29, 2024 at Cox Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was 75 years old.
Robert was born on January 17, 1949, in Lebanon, Missouri to Harold E. Gilpin and Dessie A. Richardson Gilpin. Robert graduated from Conway High School in 1967. After graduation, Robert enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri and honorably served his country until his discharge on December 14, 1970.
A mutual friend introduced Robert to the love of his life, Lynne Hooper, in 1986. After a long courtship, Robert and Lynne were married on February 2, 1998. After living in Willard for numerous years, the couple moved to the city of Republic to be close to Lynne’s daughter, Julie and her family. Robert and Lynne were enthusiastic grandparents to their beloved grandchildren, Hunter and Shelby. They were involved in their daily activities – eagerly attending their school and sport functions.
Robert was a car enthusiast. He had a great passion for transforming cars to perfection. He frequently travelled to car shows displaying his creations. He enjoyed all sports. He played basketball in high school, coached women’s softball, and especially loved watching his granddaughter play basketball and volleyball. He was an ardent Kansas City Chiefs fan.
He is survived by his niece, Debbie Lockwood, his nephew, Monty Hays, and his grandchildren, Shelby and Hunter.
Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Hays; his wife, Lynne Hooper; and his step-daughter, Julie Forbis.
A funeral service will be held at 9 am on Friday, February 2, 2024 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri.
