Robert H. ( Bob ) Murdock passed from this life on September 22, 2014 at the age of ninety. Bob was born on February 19, 1924 at Cave Springs, Arkansas to George and Elsie Murdock. After graduating from Cave Springs High School in 1941, and as World War II was in progress, Bob joined the U. S. Navy and served his country aboard the destroyer USS Eisele in the Pacific as an Electricians Mate 2/C. After the war ended and he was discharged from the Navy, he worked for Western Electric in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There he met his future wife Billie Jean Barker of Quinton, Oklahoma. They were united in marriage January 28, 1950 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and became the parents of two sons. After working for Western Electric for several years, he was employed by Armour & Co. and later worked for John Morrell & Co., spending a total of 41 years in wholesale meat sales. Bob advanced to District Sales Manager at John Morrell, supervising nine salesmen in the Tri State area for several years. Bob and Billie lived in Wichita, Tulsa, and Joplin, before moving to Springfield in 1975. In 1988, Bob lost his “ sweet Billie “ at the age of fifty – eight. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Billie, his parents, and a sister Imogene Stride of Sioux Falls, South Dakota He is survived by two sons, Wayne, his wife Sue, and grandsons Kyle and Jacob of Joplin, and Cory of Neosho, son Kevin, his wife Bonnie, and grandsons Bradley and Matthew of Springfield, and a very near and dear friend, Mildred Robertson. Visitation will be held in Greenlawn Funeral Home South on Thursday, September 25, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Services will be Friday September 26, 2014 in Greenlawn Funeral Home South at 1:00 p.m. with burial in Eastlawn cemetery.
