Roberta Ann (Wenderott) Wilson was born on December 23, 1938 in Lyon County, Kansas to Edward and Joella Wenderott. She passed on November 7th at her home in Nixa, MO with her daughter by her side.
Roberta graduated from Dunlap High School and then from the Newman School of Nursing. While at nurse’s training, the only male student in the class, Bill Wilson, chose the love of his life to be his wife. They were married on March 6th, 1959 and spent just shy of 65 years together before his passing in December of 2023. To this incredible union of marriage, 4 beautiful children were born – Bradley, Eddie, Nyla and Rodney.
Roberta spent her professional career as an RN serving the communities where Bill was a hospital administrator. While she worked in doctor’s offices and other areas of medical service, the majority of her career was spent as the head of surgery. She took care of her patients with passion and care. Her dedication to service was beyond admirable. She was very grateful for the many people that she got to work with and alongside of and the many young people that she was able to mentor along the way.
A strong Christian woman, Roberta was selfless, kind, patient and above all else loving. She loved her family with all of her heart and spent her life caring for others. It was never about her but making sure everyone was taken care of. She was by Bill’s side for so many years supporting and loving him. She was an incredible mother that nurtured her children and raised them to be good, strong and loving people. But perhaps her greatest joy was being a Nana to her four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was the BEST Nana tending to their every need, letting them win whatever game they were playing, reading books to them or just loving on them. She had a big heart for all people but particularly took to the young children and to those in need. She developed a special bond with so many and to know Roberta was to love her. She was truly an inspiration to many and an incredible woman.
Her and Bill enjoyed spending time watching sporting events whether it was grandkids playing, their daughter coaching or watching the K-State Wildcats with other family members. She particularly loved baseball growing up as a young child listening to the Atlanta Braves. She loved her Kansas City Royals. She could be found most nights watching sports on TV, had her list of when each team played and loved cheering for her favorite teams. She spent countless hours stitching, reading, canning or spending time outdoors in the sun. She enjoyed traveling with Bill and other family and friends. She loved the turn of seasons and the beautiful turn of the fall leaves.
Roberta was a member of the Aldersgate Methodist Church in Maize, KS.
