Roger Eugene Weaver, 84, of Springfield went to be with his Heavenly Father January 8, 2024.
Roger was born June 25, 1939 in Winona, Missouri to G.P. (Pyrt) and Jean (Stark) Weaver. He grew up in Shannon County and learned to love and appreciate the land, conservation and history. Roger accepted Jesus as his savior at the age of 12 years. He graduated Valedictorian of his class at Winona High School. He went on to attend Southwest Missouri Teachers College where his studies were interrupted by his enlistment in to the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Scotland for 3 years. After he was discharge from the service, he found employment with MODOT where he worked for 8 years.
Roger met and married the local teacher Elizabeth Churchman in 1968 when they became known as Ms. Churchman and Roger by her students. They welcomed 2 children, Rachel and Rodney in the following years. He then returned to Missouri State University to complete his degree in industrial education. He taught in the public schools for 11 years. He enjoyed woodworking, travel, the old westerns and was the original DIY-er.
Roger is a current member of the First Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri. His faith was an important part of his life. He was a committed and loving husband, father and friend.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Weaver, his daughter Dr. Rachel Weaver of Kingwood, Texas, his son Reverend Rodney Weaver and his wife Joy of Battlefield, Missouri; his brother Glenn and his wife Barbara of Columbia, Missouri, his sisters-in-law Mary Cullers of Topeka, Kansas and Rebecca Churchman of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by 3 nephews, Randy Weaver, David Weaver and Michael Gibson as well as 3 nieces Janet Weaver, Glenda McGrath and Addison Meyers.
Services for Roger will be at 12:30 pm Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East. Interment with full military honors will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm Tuesday prior to the service.
