Ronald Charles Smith, age 72, of Elkland, Missouri, passed away on April 3, 2025, in his home, with his loving wife of 38 years by his side. Ron was born to Harold Smith and Beulah Webber on July 1, 1952 in Moorhead, MN. Ron was united in marriage to Carolyn Smith on April 22, 1987 in Las Vegas, NV. Ron served in the United States Air Force, and was stationed in Turkey before his honorable discharge.
Ron retired from the Registry Cage at the United States Post Office in Springfield, MO where he worked for over 30 years. He had a love of classic cars and a passion for not only building, but maintaining anything and everything he envisioned. He designed and built the family home with blue prints only in HIS head, all while working full-time, going to college, raising and selling pigs, and maintaining more than one classic vehicle. During his life he worked with Erik to fully restore a 1956 Chevy pickup, and before the internet made research so easy, Ron would spend hours at the library researching the next “project”. Ron loved to cruise, travel in their motor home, camp, fish for trout, and enjoyed making Creme Brulee for his grandchildren. If you were sick, Ron was the best nurse you could have. Ron was just like the energizer bunny…he never stopped, even when hospitalized, and feeling so sick, he was trying to fix things to make life easier for his family that he loved so very much.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Beulah Smith, and three brothers, Jim, Donnie, and Ric. He is survived by his spouse Carolyn Smith; daughter, Elizabeth Latham; son, Erik Latham; grandchildren, Jordan Latham and wife Amber, Damon Latham, Kerian Moore, Kourtney Abay and husband Connor, Ruby Moore, and Madilynn Murphy; and one great-grandson, Ezra Abay. Ron was excitedly looking forward to welcoming two more great-grandsons, Baby Latham and Baby Abay, both due in August.
A visitation for Ron will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, 6:00-8:00 PM, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield, Missouri. A Funeral Service for Ron will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Greenlawn Funeral Home North with a burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
