Ronald Edward Boutwell (better known as “RB” within his teaching and theatre families) passed into the Heavenly arms of his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on July 18, 2022 after a short illness. Ron was born in Baird, TX, to Benjamin Edward and Verna Glycene (Bray) Boutwell on April 7, 1936. In 1943, the family moved to Fort Worth. As a

Jerry A Frazier left a message on July 30, 2022:
A thespian paraphrase of the 23rd Psalm The LORD is my director I shall not lack for movement or motivation. He helps me to understand the emotions of my life. He leads me to be stretched in new directions. Though I walk with Him in serious dramas He wants me to laugh and find humor in the comedy of life. Though I fear forgetting a line or missing a cue. I will not fear any audience in performance For He is my confidence, my strength. He gives me new scripts to learn. He gives me new characters to develop. My creativity will overflow. My life overflows because He has given me a role that does not end with the run of the play. My role will not be completed until I meet the master director Himself.

We met Ron many years ago when SGT was on N Benton in Springfield. We enjoyed the plays he wrote as well as all the others. We considered him a friend and enjoyed visiting at different performances when he was there. He will be missed! We appreciate his dedication to furthering the Gospel of Christ. Prayers for those that grieve, while we celebrate his life and many contributions he made.

To James, Denise, Dena, extended family, and to the many former students and co-workers, my deepest sympathy. RB's death brings a great deal of sadness but a great deal of joy as we reflect on his life. He had the incredible gift of combining his faith, the arts, and joy for life. As a young college student with little theater experience, he gave me an opportunity to develop some dramatic ability but more importantly, confidence. in my self. Beyond the classroom, stage, and graduation from SBU, RB continued to influence my life. Using drama as a way to communicate was a part of my nearly 40 years in local church ministry. In retirement, as a part of the Living History Interpreter Team at the Museum of the Bible, I am able to use what RB taught me every time I interact with our guests. He leaves a legacy. We will see him again.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Ron had my utmost respect. I remember how kind he and Dena were when I first arrived at SGT. He was a man of few words so when he spoke I listened closely. He is missed. He is loved. He is home.

There aren’t words. Not sure there is any single person outside of family who had a bigger effect on my life and heart. Can’t wait till I next hear, “Let’s talk about life . . .”. Will miss you RB.

I am saddened to hear the news if his passing. Ron was a great man. One that will be missed by SO many. His vision/mission to share Christ in the form of drama lead me to find my wife. I was in several plays (ie. Damascus Road, Elijah, Christmas to Remember, etc) at SGT and she ushered there (as well as was in one play there-When the Rocka Cry Out) where we met. I can't wait till I see him again. Love in Christ Micah and RoyceAnne Stringfield.

Mike Beahm left a message on July 23, 2022:
I am so sad to hear of Ron's passing. He was a great man, and I have many many fond memories of him and the many plays we worked on together. Every year as I watch the Academy Awards, it is impossible to enjoy them without thinking back on the many times we watched them on RB's giant television and had our own mini homecoming in his beautiful home. He was an amazing inspiration to me. I also greatly enjoyed seeing James David and Denise grow into wonderful adults. I remember fondly the many times we enjoyed his bountiful hospitality, and often think of the time a group of us sheltered in his home during an ice storm, we played password and had a wonderful time, and then a bus arrived and RB found himself sheltering over 50 more students who needed a warm place to stay. He greeted them all with his loving smile. Perhaps no other person had more influence on Missouri's 20th century High School theater than RB. When you think of all the outstanding high school theater teachers who came from that old converted church, and RB's wise tutelage, no one question his incredible impact. He shall certainly be missed, and will always be fondly remembered.
Deborah Hodge left a message on July 23, 2022:
RB was the most profound influence on my life of any teacher. He was also a wonderful friend. His loss is beyond words. My deepest sympathy to all his family.
Mark Brundieck left a message on July 23, 2022:
Ron touched countless lives through Stained Glass Theatre and impacted multiple generations in his lifetime. I'm thankful for how God has used him and a multitude of other people to bless others in the outreach at Stained Glass Theatre and all of the other ways. My sympathy to the family and others that were close to him. I wish I could express that in person to you. May God give you strength and encouragement as you face the loss.
Brian Welch left a message on July 23, 2022:
Without a doubt, RB was one of the most influential people in my life. After graduating from SWBC, I lived with the Boutwells that summer, before beginning a 42-year journey of teaching high school theatre, speech, and English. There were few days in those many years that I did not think about him and his strong, positive influence. To say that I adored his first wife, Dorothy, does not really say it at all. In college, I appeared in his plays, THE NEW COMMITMENT and WONDERFUL WORLD. We worked together on THE LOST SILVER MINE outdoor theatre--an unforgettable experience. We traveled to New York together and shared many adventures. We drifted apart in these last years, but RB never left my heart or my head. I will mourn his passing as I send my deepest sympathy to James David and Denise.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.
