Rose Marie Pelphrey Boone, 93 died peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2017 in Springfield, Missouri.
Rose Marie was the second daughter of Lasco Wheeler and Nauty Byrd Wornell Pelphrey born June 30,
1923 in Corsicana, Texas Rose Marie graduated from University of Texas where she met Martin. They recently celebrated 73 years together as husband and wife. Rose Marie and Martin lived in Pennsylvania where Martin attended medical school. Rose Marie was part of the research team that study and discovered that pure oxygen caused blindness; she was given a Presidential citation for being a part of this research team. They moved to Midland Texas to set up medical practice and to raise a family. In 1967 the family moved to Springfield Missouri when Martin changed medical specialty.
Rose Marie belonged to numerous clubs and served on many boards in the community. She was a
member of The Daughters of the American Revolution and is a past president of the Greene County
Medical Auxiliary. She held many roles in civic organizations. She also went back to school and obtained
a Master's degree in Religious Studies and was a teaching assistant in the department at SMSU. Rose
Marie and Martin set up a Religious Studies Scholarship Fund at MSU.
Rose Marie and Martin were avid tennis players and were an unbeatable mixed double team. She and
Martin were excellent dancers and belonged to several dance clubs. Rose Marie also was a voracious
reader and had a book club she enjoyed. Their travels took them all over the world. Rose Marie
touched and influenced many people.
She is preceded in death by her parents and sister’s Nauty Byrd Pelphrey Mayer and Wanda Minnette Pelphrey Goodson and grandchildren Grant Hayden Boone and Meghan Rose Wilson.
She is survived by her husband Martin H Boone, Jr.; her children Bill Boone, Springfield; Jane Arradaza, Frisco, TX; Ann Neu, Springfield; Ben Boone and wife Nicole, Columbia, MO; Julie Wilson and husband Wayne, Prosper, TX and grandchildren Daphnie Boone, Michaela Arradaza, Chris Neu and wife Laura, Michelle Neu, Brian Neu, Tyler Boone and wife Danielle, Julie Totton, Sarah Totton, Max Boone, and Mitchell Wilson and many dear nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, January 20, 2017 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East 3540 E Seminole Springfield, Missouri 65809. A service will be held 10:00 am Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Christ Episcopal Church 601 E Walnut St Springfield Missouri 65806.
