Ruth Anna Patterson Fowler was born on February 28, 1928 in Muscotah, Kansas, the fourth of four children born to Henry and Naomi McDaniel Patterson. She passed away peacefully on November 14, 2023 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Ruth Anna grew up in Montreal, Missouri where she attended grade school and graduated from Stoutland High School in 1946. In July 1946 she married Carroll Gene Fowler, also of Montreal. Gene and Ruth built their first house together in Montreal, and their children, James Floyd and Mary Ann, were born while they lived there.
The family later moved to Richland, Missouri where they built three more houses over the years. Ruth Anna was active in Richland First Baptist Church and worked at the H.E. Warren store as a cashier and in the meat department. Following Gene’s retirement, they built their last house near Jenkins, Missouri and later moved to Springfield where they became active members of South Haven Baptist Church. They traveled on many bus trips with the senior group – continuing their love of travel that began with two-week trips every summer when their children were small.
Ruth Anna moved to Tulsa to be near her daughter Mary Ann after Gene’s death in 2002. As in all the places she lived throughout her 95 years, she created a warm, welcoming, peaceful home filled with quilts and cross stitch pictures she had made as well as wonderful food from her kitchen. An account of her life would not be complete without mentioning her love of playing games. She played an untold number of Skip Bo, Rummikub, and domino games over the years – and played to win.
Ruth Anna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene, brother Vance Carlos Patterson, sisters Violet Fern Marshall, Susie Marie Harper and Alice Lorene Fowler. She is survived by her son James Floyd Fowler (Norma) of Carson City, Nevada, her daughter Mary Ann Robinson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and two granddaughters, Sherri Ann Young (Trevor), Tulsa, OK and Jaime Ruth Fowler, Carson City, NV, her sister Clarice Payne (Gerald), Richland, MO and brother Paul Frisbee, Alvaton, Kentucky as well as many nieces and nephews to whom she was very special.
A graveside service will be held at the Montreal Cemetery, Montreal, MO, on Sunday November 19, 2023 at 2:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the cemetery.
