Sharon L. Potter Orr, age 81, passed away on January 7, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. Sharon was born on October 12, 1940 to Juanita and Ira Felmer Johnson of Wichita, KS. Her parents, her sisters Barbara and Leota, and her brother Delno preceded Sharon in death. Sharon is survived by her daughters Laurie Potter Blanchard, Shannon Potter Keever and Kelli Potter Strang. She had 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and cherished relationships with her nephew Delno Ebie and her Son-in-Law Robert Strang.
Sharon spent the early years of her life in the Wichita, KS area and attended Wichita High School North as a member of the class of ’58. Later, in Belle Plaine, KS she raised her family before moving to Kansas City, KS, Bentonville, AR and finally Springfield, MO. Sharon formed many life-long friendships, which she held very close to her heart. In her best friends Judy McElravy, Ardith Key and Pat and Harry Strang, she found peace, understanding and devotion. It seemed Sharon never met a stranger. She would always strive to make new friends, regularly reminding them how much she loved them. Sharon was very close to her family and traveled many miles to visit with her children and grandchildren over the years. Sharon was a dynamic individual with over 30 years of medical and legal secretarial experience. During her career, she worked at the Sumner County Attorney’s office, the Sedgwick County Sheriffs Department and the Wichita Head Start Program. Sharon retired from Shook, Hardy & Bacon Law Firm in Kansas City after 11 years as an executive legal secretary in the business litigation, environmental law, and employment law departments. Over the years, Sharon organized and presented seminars such as Day in Court, in conjunction with The Legal Secretaries Association for legal secretaries week. She was a member of the Heart of America Legal Professionals Association and held several certificates of continuing education in her profession. Sharon formed many working relationships, which ultimately evolved into life-long friendships. From time spent throughout her years with Mary Kay to her voluntary efforts as Mrs. Claus each year at the Shook Hardy & Bacon Christmas celebration to playing the Piano for corporate events, her generous spirit promoted joy and acceptance for both the young and the young at heart. Sharon shared her many talents and gifts whenever needed and encouraged others to give of their talents in the same way. She was skilled in the arts of floral design, jewelry making, sewing, baking, painting and playing the piano by ear. She was a devoted mother who raised three daughters, a loving grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Hers was a life taken too soon, but a love that will last forever.
